An introduction to Watercolours - Beginners Class

Are you interested in watercolours?  Read all the books and watched all the tutorials but still feel you have no idea where to begin?  Are you getting brown mud when you do try watercolours? Feeling frustrated? Come along, bring your enthusiasm and spirit of adventure. This course is suitable for complete beginners and those trying to understand more about watercolours, looking to create whilst having fun with less risk of making mud.

With your tutor Sheree Young demonstrating, assisting and guiding you, you'll obtain hands on experience and learn:

  • How to lay watercolour paint on paper using simple examples.
  • How to mix colours and lay them on paper so they are vibrant and vivid, not dull and brown.
  • More about tonal value in watercolours and how important they are.
  • By painting a final painting, how to paint exciting watercolours through colour choices, incorporating complimentary colours.
  • To understand which watercolour paper to use for your different projects
  • More information about watercolour paints and brushes to help you when you need to restock or purchase.

£95 for the day which includes an A3 pad of 300g watercolour paper, a set of 8 brushes, a set of 14 watercolour paints. These will be yours to take home after the course. There are also some simple items we ask you to bring from home: an old bath towel, 500ml or larger water container, pencil, ruler, eraser, masking tape, a fine mist spray bottle, toilet roll.

Class is limited to 10 people, download a booking form here or call 01381 600354.

Sheree Young is an internationally recognised watercolour artist. Although mostly self-taught, her artistic journey has been shaped by her diverse experiences and cultural influences.
