Stone Letter Carving Taster Weekend

A two day introduction to letter carving in stone with Robbie Schneider and Beatrice Searle.
A weekend course will be held in the studios at The Stables in the beautiful setting of Cromarty. The focus will be on gaining an understanding of the tools and techniques specific to letter carving in stone. Students will need to come with a four to six letter word in mind, which we will lay out on the stone and carve. Students will be able to take their finished pieces home at the end of the course.
Stone will be supplied and all tools provided.

Robbie Schneider studied sculpture at Camberwell and Byam Shaw Art Schools in London and later specialised in lettering. He is a former chairman of Letter Exchange, an elected member of the Scottish Lettercutters Association and of the Royal Society of Sculptors. Robbie is a sculptor and letter carver, and does many public and private commissions. His work can be found in America and throughout Britain, from Kent in the South to Shetland in the far North. Robbie works primarily in stone but also in wood, metals and other materials.
Beatrice Searle is a fine art graduate of Newcastle University, a qualified Cathedral stonemason and a former student of the European Lettering Institute in Brugge. She is a QEST and DBR scholar and lives and works in Scotland as an inscriptional letter cutter in stone and wood. She is also the author of Stone Will Answer.
